Day 10 - Otaru and Yoichi

Woke up late..around 9 am and started preparing my day fast so it wouldn't be too late. Left at around 10, and boy....it was nice and sunny. Headed to the station to go to Otaru. Otaru is a town/city that is popular for it's canal and other things as food but I was going there for the Canal, Sakamichi dori and some nice ice cream and sake 😂.

So I got to Otaru and went straight for the canal, walking from one end to the other. Then I had to get some food as that would be my breakfast and opted for sushi and I was told it was amazing here.

Then I went to an ice cream that seems to be hidden a bit if you don't look for it but I had heard it was super good and had these special flavours 😂 I ended up taking 3 scoops: squid ink, purple sweet potato and japanese sake....all equally awesome haha the shop owner (?) was very nice and I spoke to her a little bit and asked to take a picture, she was a good sport about it.

After the ice cream I walked down to Sakamichi dori which is basically a street filled with shop, food, restos, glass artisans and lots of ice cream shop and dessert shops. Then, I headed to the sake brewery place in Otaro called Tanaka Shuzo Kikko Gura. Really nice place, had even some special water they use to make sake. As I got there inside, the tour had sort of finished I think so they had arrived at the tasting area so I sneaked in to have like 6-7 shots of sake..mmmmm... tried 5 different ones and they had liquors with fruits I didn't mind those. There were two girls from Malaysia also tasting the sake and we striked a small convo but haha they were really liking the sake I would say XD they were part of a tour bus so they had to hurry up a bit.

As I finished with the sake, it was time to head out to Yoichi for a famous Nikka Whisky distillery. I got there around 3:30pm so the tours had finished for the day and could do my own free tour lol so I visited as much as I could and finally arrived at the tasting room.  I was allowed to 3 glasses so 1 of each bottle they were putting out to try. One was an apple brandy flavoured one, which was sweet but after adding an ice cube, it tasted better; they recommended 2 but I saw it too late XD then the next one was a non aged whiskey but that was strong tasting, too much difference with what I had. Finally, the last one was a super blend and was a bit better. Then I went to try out two other whiskies which I had to pay 300yen each but it was worth it.

After my visit to the Japanese whisky master, I went back to the appartment but I was starving to went in to this pub, yakitori i believe, but they served even ramen XD so i ordered a beer, ramen, a bowl of fried rice with octopus and some fish flakes and mochi desert. I was full....oufff.. what a day!
